Evie was hoping for a quiet night at home, playing chess on her computer then spending time with her girlfriend. But instead, she wakes bound and gagged in the boot of a car with her chronically ill sister Danielle. They are separated, Evie put in an underground dungeon with 7 other innocent captives. They have no idea why they are all captive until 3 rules appear on a projector screen:
Rule 1: Play a move every 5 minutes
Rule 2: Miss a move, an innocent dies.
Rule 3: Each piece taken dies.
It all makes horrible sense when a chess board appears on the screen, each piece has one of their names on it. Surrounding the board are videos of their friends and family, including Danielle. They have to play the game or their innocents die… but playing the game will kill them too.
Evie is the king, and as the only one who can play chess, she has to make the terrible choices, but to win, they will lose pieces, and those people have to be killed. Will they go peacefully or fight it, and will the other captives accept Evie’s plan. As the pressure builds and they start to lose piece and lives, tempers fray, and Evie’s position is challenged in the most bloodthirsty and shattering way…
