The lead role of Marnie is a good challenge as to start with, the audience has to sympathize with her even though her actions are not all that nice. She is hiding a secret - how her sister lost her sight - which she hates herself for. Her parents are somewhat neglectful of her, often favoring Jasmine. Marnie has a full arc that ends with her redemption as she is willing to sacrifice everything to save her sister.

The second main role, that of Jasmine 'JJ' has one huge challenge, the script starts with her being able to see, but an accident blinds her. The main story is set 2 years later. Despite that, she can be very tough, although it's a huge drain on her willpower, leaving her drained and emotional. She was a painter before she lot her sight. Her parents definitely favor her over Marnie.

Aly is a very smart, kind and caring best friend to Marnie. She is the only friend left after the accident with Jasmine, and very much dislikes Marnie's new circle of friends. But she is loyal and only wants what is best for her friend. But she is no pushover despite her kind nature. She is involved in an internet relationship with Nash.

Sam is the leading man, and he is a the product of a broken marriage, huge trust issues, and with it, a budding narcissistic psychopath, he can charm you one minute, and slap you the next... all of which he does to his girlfriend Bec. That being said, he genuinely wants to survive the game, it scares him that he might not.

Bec really wants to be loved, she doesn't get much of that at home, but she's chosen the wrong person to give her that... Sam is a narcissistic psychopath. From the very beginning of the film, the flower he's given her is an apology for something... she is a classic victim of abuse, she is so trapped that she can't see a way out, even when help is offered.

Nash is not what he seemed to Aly when they were talking online. He fakes his profile picture, going for someone who looks younger than he is. He cares about her deeply, and in the end, he is actually a really nice guy. He also recognizes Sam for the psycho he is.

Will is an average sort of teenager, he likes computer games, he wants to play cool ones, and he's not happy when he gets lumped with the boring jobs. He is no coward though, and takes on the challenge of the game with a desire to protect his friends.

Frankie is an awkward alternative soul who rarely has the confidence to speak to a girl, and when Frankie does, it's a lot of nervous babble. The girl Frankie likes is Marnie. However, she doesn't really notice Frankie as anything but a nuisance, and her friends are outright mean. Despite Frankie best efforts, they bully horribly.

Joe is a very loyal father to Frank. He is ex military intelligence, now in cyber security. When his son is horribly bullied, which results in his suicide, Joe decides he has to teach the bullies a lesson. He is driven by grief, he's not insane.
