Evie Hope (late teens - lead)
Evie is socially awkward, physicality freaks her out, but she is very intelligent, skilled at sciences, maths, and chess. She cares deeply about her little sister Danielle, who enjoys winding her sister up, even though Evie doesn’t really get the jokes, she still just rolls with it. Once she is trapped in the game, she will do anything to keep her sister safe.
Kira Andrews (late teens - lead)
Kira is sharp, sassy, not brilliantly smart, but very confident that she knows what she knows. She may have been one of the popular kids at school, but she carries a secret that has changed her perspective on loyalty and friendship.
Danielle Hope (mid teens – support)
Evie’s younger sister, Danielle is chronically ill with only a few years left unless she gets a lung transplant. She is constantly on oxygen through nasal canulla, she would die within 5 minutes without it. Despite this death sentence hanging over her, she enjoys the life she has, has a wicked sense of humour, and believes all things can be negotiated.
Lucas Handley (early 20s – lead)
Lucas seems a kind soul, caring for the innocent, and trying to help everyone. But his fiery nature hide beneath the surface, he is clearly very smart, and there's something not quite right about him, he may be a psychopath, but he hides it very well.
Paul Bennett (mid 30s/40s - lead antagonist)
In the simplest terms, Paul is a psychopath. But very importantly, he doesn’t get any sexual thrill from what he is doing, he enjoys making money out of the games, to the point that he is very cold about it. He takes intellectual pleasure from watching everyone battle, and especially his main opponents, Evie and Danielle.
Noah Matthews (late teens / early 20s – support)
Noah is genuinely a nice person who cares deeply about his grandmother and will protect her as best he can. But he is not strong and a people pleaser, so he tends to agree with whoever is in front of him, and pushing the hardest. When he finally makes a decision, it all goes wrong for him, so naturally he wants to find another decision to make.
Sarah Wilson (early 20s – support)
Sarah has had a hard life, and it has made her distrusting, insecure and defiant. She is fiercely loyal to her fiancée Jack, and her parents, all of which drive her actions in the game. From the beginning, she fights against Evie’s direction. When Lucas emerges as opposition to Evie and Kira, she joins him.
Jack Lyle (early 20s – support)
Jack has had an easier life than his fiancée Sarah and it has created a gentler soul, a kind man who can calm his passionate other half. He would rather talk and relate to the other side, but Sarah is such a strong personality that he tends to fall into line with her.
Wendy Reid (late teens - support)
Wendy got pregnant at 16, and having battled depression her whole life, she got hit with severe post-partum depression that ended with her trying to kill herself. She lost her baby to the father, her ex-boyfriend. Even so, she has fought hard to overcome her demons and has re-established a close connection to her now 3 year old girl, and the father. Life, in theory, was getting better…
Vicky Smith (mid/late teens – support)
Vicky seems very much the innocent victim, a gentle soul who is trapped in a nightmare and wants something to hold on to in order to get through it. She has a good heart, and wants to help people whenever she can. She is brave in the face of death, but there’s something about how easily she agrees that suggests something very different.
Zach Alexander (late teens/20s – support)
Zach has always defiant, through his whole life he has fought for his place in the world. Most times, he’s lost the fight, but he can’t stop. Trapped in an underground dungeon against an enemy he can’t fight drives him to insane defiance.
